3.5.2 - The repository shall track and manage intellectual property rights and restrictions on use of repository content as required by deposit agreement, contract, or license.

Intellectual property rights and restrictions are tracked at two levels.  First, UC3 has secured and maintained agreements with institutions -- specifically, the UC Libraries -- that have deposited collections into our preservation service, as described in Section 3.5.1.  The Digital Assets Submission Agreement (DASA) and an associated Inventory (DASI) constitute the agreement. One function of the DASA is to establish the type of rights and licenses the institution is providing to the CDL.

Second, we persistently manage any rights and restrictions information expressed in the form of metadata (that is supplied with digital objects deposited into Merritt).  We strongly recommend that rights metadata accompanies each digital object deposited into Merritt.  If provided with metadata records, we will store and preserve them as part of the digital object package.
